Frater Perfume Label Printer

Challenge:

Fraterworks is an innovative manufacturer of fragrances and bases for fragrance development. They source large volumes of base scents for other manufacturers all around the world. Being a dynamic business they blend fragrances on demand according to customer requirements which requires a just-in-time manufacturing mantra.

With sales volume increasing daily and existing label generation software being very manual and time-consuming, staff were up late each night generating labels for the following days manufacturing. This not only introduced delay in the dispatch of orders, it was reaching the bounds of how scalable the process can be.

Solution:

Philo Software undertook an on premise investigation of the manufacturing process to identify opportunities for software to remove bottlenecking processes. A number of points in the manufacturing process were identified as low hanging fruit for software, but the label printing was chosen as the first to solve.

Software was created that connects to Shopify to pull orders, generate labels and mark them as printed. Label layout is optimised to save paper but keep orders batched to minimise mixing order labels. This can be run on any terminal and connects via the local network to the label printers which progressively print labels for orders that are queued up.

Outcome:

By having all of the product information accessible, labels went from lacking information to enhanced with all the information required to meet global standards for product labelling.

Label printing went from manual generation, to a couple of clicks and hundreds of labels can be produced in quick succession. Now staff can focus on processing orders, dispatch and manufacturing without the late nights generating labels.

The software is a critical piece of the workflow and has been seamless integrating with the manufacturing pipeline.
